Bhoj Patra / Himalayan Birch Tree is widely found in the Himalayas. This is not a big tree it is a middle sized tree, with very distinctive bark which peels off in very thin, almost transparent strips.

Male flowers are born in catkins which hang in bunches at the end of bare branches, or with young leaves. Female flowers arise in solitary spikes. Leaves are 5-8 cm long, ovate, fine pointed, irregularly saw-toothed, finely hairy when young. Flowering: April-May.

Procedure for Kapalbhati Pranayama.-
  • Sit comfortably in a open ground or open places .
  • At the time of practicing pranayama yoga, cloths should be loose and comfortable with the body
  • Kapalbhati is practiced in anyone of comfortable poses of asana like Padmasana, Siddhasana, Vajrasana or Sukhasana sitting on the floor on yoga mat. Spinal cord must be straight.
  • Fold your legs. keep the spine straight and close the eyes.
  • Keep the right palm on right knee and left palm on left knee.
  • Now take a deep breath and exhale with all your force  so your stomach will go deep inside.
  • When you exhale with hissing sound try to think that your disorders are coming out of your nose.
  • Do not stress on inhaling. Inhalation should not involve any effort. Inhaling will be done automatically after each exhaling.
  • Repeat these steps for 4 to 5 minute and do not try hard, take rest. You can increase time step by step upto to 15 – 30 minutes.
  • Should practice normal speed not to do very fast. Speed of practice should maintain be medium.
Benefits of Kapalbhati Pranayama.
  • Balances three dosas of the human body. These are vata (wind/spirit/air), pitta (bile) and kapha (phlegm). Disorder of these three is the root cause for unhealthy body.

  • Blood Pressure patients should avoid doing with force in the beginning.
  • In the summer season, if the temperature is very high, it is prohibited for over five minutes.
  • In the beginning, any pranayama practice must be done under experienced yoga teacher’s training.
  • Practice pranayama in the supervision of an expert yoga teacher after informing about your whole health.

Bahya Pranayama.

Bahya’ means in Sanskrit ‘outside’. As the name indicates, the breath is kept outside during practice.
  It should be done after kapalbhati pranayama.

Now, try to touch your chin to the chest (Jalandhar Bandha or Throat lock), lift upwards the muscles of diaphragm (Uddiyan Bandha or Abdominal lock) and also lift the muscles of groin area (Mulabandha or Root lock). These three Bandha all together called ‘Tribandha’ or ‘Mahabandha’.
Patients of Heart, Blood Pressure and Cervical Colitis should not over stretch.

Staying in this state for at least 10-15 seconds or as per your body stamina, release all Bandha one by one and breath in slowly.Repeat this process 1-3 times per day initially.

Bahya Pranayama should be practiced after Kapalbhati. In this way keeping the breath out, the vital energy  generated by Kapalbhati in ‘Mooladhar Chakra’ evolves into higher forms. Practicing with tribandha is extremely beneficial for Kundalini Power awakening as well.

Procedure For Bahya Pranayama -
  • Sit in pose of Padmasana or Siddhasana.
  • Take a deep breath and exhale breath completely to evacuate lungs as much as possible.
  • Hold your breath and touch your chin to the chest is called (Jalandhar Bandha or Throat lock). By pulling your stomach in and up under the rib cage such that the stomach and back seem to touch each other from inside. It is called (Uddiyana Bandha). Lift the muscle from groin area is called (Mulabandha or Root lock).
  • Hold this three bandhas for some time as much you can 10-15 seconds then breathe in deeply to release these three locks.
Repeat Bahya pranayama for 2-5 minutes daily.

Benefits of Bahya pranayama
  • Hernia is completely cured with regular practice.
  • All urinary and prostate problems are cured.
  • It is wonder remedy for gas, constipation and uterus problems if practiced with ‘tribandha’.
  • It is good for ‘Diabetes’ as well.
  • Constipation Acidity, Gastric problem, Hernia cure completely
  • Cures problems related reproductive organs.
Precautions
Pranayama should be done on empty stomach having gap of min 3 to 4 hours between practice and your meal. Those suffering from heart problem, blood pressure and cervical colitis should not practice. They can control this by practicing other asana and pranayama. Practice under expert guidanace.
Women should not practice bahya pranayama during period.

Udgeeth Pranayama

In this pranayam one has inhaling and exhaling duration should be long and try to concentrate the mind. Breathe normally and chant long ‘OMMM........mmmmm’ while exhaling. The breathing should be so simple that the sound of breath should not be heard and even cotton kept in front of the nose should not move. Chant ‘OOOM’ and visualize it while practicing this pranayam.

Duration
Udgeeth Pranayama can be practiced for min 6 to max 12 times daily.

Procedure of Udgeeth Pranayama -
  • Sit in a open places and suitably relaxed posture.
  • In this pranayama try the inhaling and exhaling duration should as long as possible,
  • Inhale deeply and while exhaling chant Ommmmmmmmm for a long time as much you can.
  • Concentrate on your breath and feel the positive energy comes when you inhale and negative energy goes out while exhaling.
  • Repeat this for 6 to10 minutes.
Benefits of Udgeeth Pranayama
  • It calms the mind and bring stability.

Life is full of tension and meditation makes it stress free and life becomes enjoyable.Meditation is the art of focusing your attention in one area.We can reach up to our consciousness through it.Meditation can be practiced in any of it’s types as per our interest. There are many types of meditation, but the results of all these forms are the same. Every body wants relaxation and peace of mind which can only be possible in meditation. Our union with the God can be made through the meditation.

The purpose of this article is to provide some practical recommendations to help beginners get past the initial hurdles.

Meditation can be an effective form of stress reduction and has the potential to improve quality of life and decrease health care costs. Meditation involves achieving a state of ‘thoughtless awareness’ in which the excessive stress producing activity of the mind is neutralized without reducing alertness and effectiveness. Authentic meditation enables one to focus on the present moment rather than dwell on the unchangeable past or undetermined future.

There are many types of Meditation available. Notable examples are -
  1. Sahaja Yoga Meditation, 
  2. Transcendental Meditation,
  3. Mindfulness ( Vipassana Meditation ) and 
  4. Mantra Meditation....
Procedure -
Start with the breath. Breathing deep slows the heart rate, relaxes the muscles, focuses the mind and is an ideal way to begin practice.

Stretch first. Stretching loosens the muscles and tendons allowing you to sit more comfortably. Additionally, stretching starts the process of “going inward” and brings added attention to the body.

Below is a list of three key forms of meditation which encompasses majority of meditations today. Many popularised meditation methods such as the Jose Silva method and Sedona method fall under one of these forms. I once came across a meditation book which covered over 100 meditation techniques – but most of them were really just nuance variations of the below:

Mindfulness Meditation - Meditating through focusing your attention on an object or process, such as your breathing, a flame, a mantra, a visualization, music, etc. An open focus is maintained. This means even though you are concentrating on something, you keep an open awareness of everything else that is happening around you and inside your mind.

Moving or Walking Meditation - Gaining awareness through using simple repetitive steps. Some examples are Tai Chi, yoga or even simple walking exercises.

Concentration Meditation – This is usually practised in religions. It is similar to mindfulness meditation with 2 differences -
(1) you concentrate on a religious prayer 
(2) you are required to maintain a closed focus where you close your awareness off from anything other than the prayer.
